Joe Pankowski
is an emerging artist from Omaha, Nebraska. Joe obtained his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Intermedia from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. He has relocated to the Chicago area where he will be studying at the University of Illinois for his Masters of Fine Arts.

Joe's work consists of a process that starts with pen and ink linear drawings depicting  characters in dream-like situations. From these drawings Joe develops a narrative. This is captured in film that incorporates hand-built props that mirror the objects within the drawings. The films that are created have the feel of a subconscious rendering with a story that is based on cause and effect. When the films are finished the artist either leaves them as is, or he creates an installation that carries the same stylized vision that is found in the films.

What Joe's Working on Now...

This semester I had been trying my hand at Pure Data, an open source programing software that I used to create an interactive installation. The piece is called Robotcide, and it consists of an animation of a robot that is projected on a gallery wall that attacks the viewer. The movements of the viewer are recorded by a pitchfork that is part of the installation. The viewer activates the robots attack by picking up the pitchfork, then the viewer is able to destroy the oncoming robot with the pitchfork.
